Reblog: Pastors and Suicide: How Do We Keep this From Happening Again?

Read this story of pastors who suffer from mental health issues over at Catching Your Breath. I think it’s important to point out that such things can happen to anybody at anytime. There simply is no stereotype.

  1. So true, JoAnn. Everyone is vulnerable, even those at the vanguard – clergy, therapists, caregivers, etc. Perhaps they even more so than others.

    That’s why communications and forums such as yours are crucial, because they remind us we don’t struggle alone. Often, just “listening,” and offering occasional advice, provide the greatest balm of all.

    Too frequently, those who aren’t “supposed” to hurt bear the deepest wounds of all. That’s where we (everyone else, that is) come in.

  2. Thank you for posting this. I don’t think anyone is immune to the possibility of mental illness especially when abused as a child. Going into a religious career doesn’t automatically exempt you from feeling. God can help sure but sometimes you need more. Yes I said that. And there’s no shame in it.
