Happy New Year: β€œF*ck the past, bring on the future!

When battling a mental health disorder the ability to say β€œf*ck the past, bring on the future” is extremely important because we often end up doing so many things that we later regret. This is especially true for people with BPD. One particularly bad aspect of BPD is later having the privilege of reflecting on all the bad memories of the past… and we usually have a lot. Dwelling on the past can feel like being stabbed repeatedly with a dagger with an added twisty motion.

These days I choose to focus my thoughts on the future. People often comment that I rarely talk about my past. Don’t get me wrong, I feel like I’ve dealt with my past as much I can through therapy and DBT exercises so it’s not that I’m avoiding it. And it’s not that I haven’t learned and grown despite of it. Ultimately though I choose to flip it the bird and move on! We can’t change the past, but we can change our future

Happy New Year! Hope it’s the best one yet!

  1. Happy New Year, JoAnn!

As for the past, I do know yours includes the north and its companion, snow. Your present, and your future, features palm trees.

No fair, you’re putting your thumb on the scale!

(And that’s exactly the way to do it too, by the way.)

Here’s to that, and to enjoying every other advantage, in 2020!

    • Life is a lot better with palm trees and sunshine 🌞
And good food, but then luckily you can have that just about anywhere.
Happy New Year to you! πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‰πŸΈ
